How to join us

Joining the u3a

To enjoy all the benefits of the u3a, you must become a member.

Our Membership year runs from 1st October to 30th September.

If you already belong to another u3a, you are still very welcome to join Wheathampstead u3a as an associate member and there is a reduced fee of £13. (Please note we shall ask you for the name of the other u3a you belong to and your membership number.)

Being a member of the u3a

As from 1 October 2024, the Annual membership fee is £20. (This reduces to £10 for the first period if you join after 31st March.)

Click here to download a New Member Application form. There are two options.

  • You can complete the form digitally, and then message the Membership Secretary, saying you would like to send it electronically. You will then receive details of where to email the form and how to pay.
  • Or you can print and fill in the form and send it with your payment to the Membership Secretary at the address given, or hand it in at a Speaker Meeting.

Why you should join us

Once you have joined you can enjoy all the benefits of Wheathampstead u3a membership:

  • Groups – this section of the website details all the groups currently running and who you should contact to join. You can also find out about and sign up for newly-proposed groups at a Speaker Meeting.
  • Meetings – this section details all the Speaker Meetings and other meetings that are coming up over the next few months.
  • Outings – these are run several times throughout the year to various destinations and can include visits to the theatre, gardens, stately homes and other places of interest.
  • Workshops - this section details the short-term workshops we run on subjects which may be new to you or where you want to brush up your skills.
  • Social events such as parties, picnics and quizzes.
  • Coffee Mornings - coffee mornings held monthly in 'The Swan' throughout the year - and non-members are very welcome.
  • Regional and National events are organised by the Third Age Trust and there are links on the News & Info page. There is always something of interest!
  • A monthly Newsletter is sent to members via email. You can also download a PDF of recent copies on the Members page. In addition, many members also opt to receive the national u3aMatters magazine.
