Village Day 2025

Wheathampstead u3a's 10th Anniversary Celebration

On the evening of May 10th the Northern Lights made a rare appearance with a myriad of coloured Lights shimmering in the night skies over Hertfordshire and at the same time, a myriad of coloured disco lights were bouncing around inside Marford Memorial Hall as Wheathampstead u3a celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a 60’s themed party.
Around 100 people danced the night away to Tony Tutton’s “Simply 60’s” band and a good time was had by all. The band was brilliant and knew exactly how to get people up and boogieing.
There was a prize for the most authentic 60’s outfit, which was won by Caroline Picket rocking a pink and white flower power dress with matching headband and shocking pink tights, and another prize for table with the most correct answers to – yes, you guessed it – a 60’s themed quiz.
The Swan very kindly provided the bar for us, ably manned by Sally and Emily, so that the hardworking Committee, could also enjoy the evening.
We were delighted that Annie Brewster, The High Sherriff of Hertfordshire, took time out to join us. She was in full regalia, complete with sword, which was put to good use for cutting the celebration cake, with a little help from Chrissie Chadney and Brian Pearce, the current chair and one of our previous chairs.
So here’s to the next 10 years of “Learning, Laughing and Living” with our wonderful u3a.
